James R. Gilliland, a Native American artist and flute maker for 15 + years from the hills of North Alabama retired from the Space Shuttle Program. He uses his engineering skills and Native American heart to create a flute that sings. One of his river cane flutes played on the International Space Station in 2002, and is now on display in the Smithsonian National Native American Museum in Washington, DC. He was also commissioned by Dr. Kathleen Joyce-Grendahl in 2004 to make the River Cane Flutes for the movie, The New World. James is a registered Native American of Cherokee/Creek heritage. He is passing on his cultural tradition of flute making to his grandchildren, Wayne, Wesley and Melissa who work with him. |

I purchased the Nest to carry and store my flutes. Last year we had some severe weather. I put my prized flutes in the Nest and stored them in the basement in case of a tornado. Well, the next morning the house was still standing but with the wind and heavy rain we had some flooding in the basement. My wife was the first to go down and when she yelled up to say we had water and my flute bag was sitting in it I got down there real quick. I unzipped the Nest fearing my flutes were wet only to find the inside bone dry. With a big sigh I unloaded the Nest and toweled off the outside. The bag is made with such quality construction it looks like new.
